To make this distinction easier for people who aren’t quite in the know, one popular example of each will be used. For the smartphones, the example will be the Apple iPhone and for the cell phones, we’ll use the Motorolla Razr.
Believe it or not there is quite a difference between the smartphone and the cell phone and it isn’t just limited to the look, the size or the weight. Much of what defines these two are the features and options, or lack thereof.
With iPhone, you have a touch-screen interface with hundreds of apps and access to clear wireless internet, 4G or any other mobile broadband service. This allows you to accomplish more on your phone without having to fire up the home computer – shopping, downloading music, watching television episodes, etc.
The Razr, while advancing and improving over the years, still doesn’t have the same capacity, potential or level of convenience and functionality that smartphones have. There’s less to do on a cell phone which makes them less comfortable to use.
What it all comes down to is convenience. People want convenience. The iPhone and most smartphones like it are simply more convenient than most cell phones on the market, and that’s the big different.
